It’s All Change at The Triangle

Foxes is situated on Poole Hill, in the area of Bournemouth known as The Triangle, an enclave of independent shops, bars and restaurants just up from the town centre but still buzzing with it’s own unique vibe both day and night. We’ve always loved the individuality of The Triangle but now it seems everyone else is finally catching on. Here are some of the latest developments…

Canvas is a new loft bar, just up the road from our office on Poole Hill, that has a trendy, upmarket vibe and is already attracting top notch DJs and bands on a regular basis. Situated behind an unassuming bright red door at ground level, step inside and a staircase leads to the first floor bar and dance floor areas. Canvas is the brainchild of the same people that brought the ever-popular 1812 bar on Exeter Road to Bournemouth’s nightlife scene, and seems to already be having a thoroughly positive impact. It’s situated right opposite one of our favourite restaurants, Koh, purveyors of tasty Thai tapas, making Canvas the ideal spot for pre or after dinner drinks (or even both!)

The ground floor premises underneath Canvas have been vacant for some time but we hear that a new micro brewery pub has just been approved and work should be starting shortly. It seems micro breweries must be in vogue, as directly opposite our office is a former pub known as The Branksome. It’s been closed for a number of years and has been looking very sorry for itself, but we’re delighted that it is currently undergoing a full refurbishment and is due, we understand, to re-open this September as a micro brewery pub selling a range of beverages brewed on the premises as well as the usual range of pub refreshments. As well as a full and thorough internal refurbishment, the beer garden at the rear is also being enlarged to make the most of the best of Bournemouth’s weather. Perfect for alfresco client meetings!

As well as drinking establishments, our taste buds are being warmed up by the prospect of a new Mexican restaurant opening just down the road, on the corner of Commercial Road and Terrace Road. Called Ojo Rojo, the two storey restaurant will offer Mexican street food in a relaxed environment, and it’s bold external mural is already making it stand out, sparking a positive talking point amongst residents and business owners. The bespoke artwork has formed the perfect gateway into The Triangle for those approaching from Terrace Road and gives a tantalising flavour of the the funky interior we can expect to see inside once the doors open for business towards the end of March. Keeping it local, the mural was painted by artist Krishna Malla from the Arts University Bournemouth. There’s such a buzz around the restaurant already that we can’t wait to see the finished result and start enjoying what is sure to be a cornerstone of what The Triangle represents and its residents and visitors alike are drawn to. One of the owners of Ojo Rojo is also the proprietor of another of our favourite spots at The Triangle, the nearby Smokin’ Aces cocktail bar and whiskey lounge.

Residents has also noticed that a former public convenience, where Commercial Road meets Poole Hill, is being totally remodelled both inside and out. We’re not sure what it’ll be just yet but, from what we can see so far, a bar or restaurant look likely contenders.

As with Foxes, all these great new developments are independent businesses rather than the same old chains, so they really should bring something fresh and unique to the area. We’re thrilled that it seems we’ll soon have some new places to add to the vibrancy of The Triangle, and give us some great places to visit with clients and friends, so we’ll be sure to do all we can to support them and spread the word.
